NonDestructive Testing

Radiographic Testing (RT) Services Philippines

Radiographic Testing (RT)

Radiographic Testing utilizes X-rays or gamma rays to view the internal structure of the test specimen. Radiation is passed through the test specimen and the film records the amount of radiation that is capable of penetrating through, forming a radiographic image of the test specimen. The variation in darkness of the radiograph provides information on the dimensions and composition of the material and it can also show the location and presence of discontinuities.

Advantages:

1. It can detect subsurface discontinuities on a wide variety of materials
2. Film serves as a permanent record

Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Services Philippines

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Ultrasonic Testing uses high frequency sound waves or ultrasound to measure the geometric and physical properties of the test specimen. It uses probes/transducers that contain element/s that transmit and receive ultrasonic waves. The calibrated UT equipment will measure the time the sound waves were emitted and received by the transducer. with the knowledge that sound velocity is unique per material, the ultrasound travel time can be translated to distance measurements. By analyzing the reflections of the sound waves, it is possible to determine the exact location and size of the defects or internal flaws in the test specimen.

Advantages:

1. Access to only one side of the test which is applicable to vessels, tanks and piping
2. Equipment is light which makes the method portable
3. Deep penetration ability

Ultrasonic Thickness Guaging (UTG) Services Philippines

Ultrasonic Thickness Guaging (UTG)

With the use of high frequency sound waves, the thickness of a almost any material can be determined using the ultrasonic thickness gauging technique. Testing is done from one side of the material and the thickness readings are provided instantaneously. This testing is widely used in in various industries.

Phased Array UT (PAUT) Philippines

Phased Array UT (PAUT)

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) is an advanced ultrasonic testing technique. It uses probes composed of several small elements which transmits and receives ultrasonic waves individually with computer-calculated timing. This technique can be used to inspect more complex geometries that are difficult and much slower to inspect with conventional UT which uses single probes. PAUT can be used to inspect almost any material that can be tested using conventional UT methods. It is often used for weld inspections and crack detection.

Advantages:

1. Testing can be done more quickly than UT techniques, often within a fraction of a second.
2. High degree of repeatability.
3. Can provide detailed and accurate cross-sections of a items tested.
4. Required scanning surface is greatly reduced because it’s able to sweep the beam without moving the probe.

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Services Philippines

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Magnetic particle testing reveals surface and near-surface discontinuities on ferromagnetic materials. A magnetizing equipment is used to apply a magnetic field through the surface of a specimen. When the magnetic field encounters a discontinuity traverse to the direction of the field, the flux lines are interrupted producing a magnetic flux leakage. Very fine colored ferromagnetic particles are applied to the surface that are drawn to the magnetic flux leakage, forming a clear indication directly over the discontinuity.

Advantages:

1. Inspections can be conducted rapidly at low cost
2. The method can be portable
3. Testing can be done through thin paint coatings

Penetrant Testing (PT) Services Philippines

Penetrant Testing (PT)

Penetrant testing reveals surface discontinuities on relatively smooth and non-porous surfaces. The penetrant is applied to the clean surface of the test object. It is allowed to remain on the surface for a prescribed time in order for the penetrant to seep into small openings in a process called capillary action. The excess penetrant is removed, and a developer is applied to draw out the remaining penetrant from the discontinuities.

Advantages:

1. It is a sensitive method capable of revealing fine flaws
2. It can be used on a wide range of material types: both magnetic and nonmagnetic
3. Aerosol spray can cleaner, penetrant and developer make the process portable
